Egyptian Art Ideas

I need to dress up like an Egyptian?
I’m in an advanced United Nations group thing at my school (against my own free will) and we have to all write an essay about our country, create a solution to one of their largest problems, create a piece of art from their culture and dress up like them. Since I doubt modern-day Egyptians are as interesting looking (not that I actually know) I think I’ll dress up as an ancient Egyptian.
I’ve googled and found nothing very helpful.
if you can give me links to any pictures, how tos, or ideas (for art or the costume) I would appreciate it more than life.
and i need to make the costume.
This might help for costume ideas: http://www.historyforkids.org/learn/egypt/clothing/
The basics – some kind of pale tunic, sandals, maybe a gold coloured necklace or other jewelery, and eyeliner (or kohl) in this style: http://cdn-write.demandstudios.com/upload//3000/300/50/4/33354.jpg
As for art, I’m thinking any hieroglyphs or traditional god/people drawings are the way to go with that, there are hundreds of images you can base it on all over the internet and in books! Quite complex drawings but they can be easily simplified!

Art of Eternal $39.95 Since the first funerary statues were placed in the first sepulchres, the ideas of death and the afterlife have always held a prominent place at the heart of the art world. An unlimited source of inspiration where artists can search for the expression of the infinite, death remains the object of numerous rich illustrations, as various as they are mysterious. The ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead, the forever sleeping statues on medieval tombs, and the Romantic and Symbolist movements of the 19th century are all evidence of the incessant interest that fuels the creation of artworks featuring themes of death and what lies beyond it. In this work, Victoria Charles analyses how art has become, through the centuries, the reflection of these interrogations linked to mankind’s fate and the hereafter. |

Egyptian Art: Selected Writings of Bernard V. Bothmer $34.47 This collection of the late Bernard V. Bothmer’s writings represents some of the most significant scholarship on Egyptian art by a pioneer in the field. Introduced by his colleague T.G.H. James, former Keeper of the Egyptian Collection at the British Museum, and his former student, Rita Freed, Curator of Ancient Egyptian, Nubian, and Near Eastern Art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, these articles span a broad range of topics on Egyptian art, from the origins of ancient Egypt to the Roman period. Bothmer’s writings are complemented by more than 450 photographs, many from his Corpus of Late Egyptian Sculpture, the fruits of his research in museums, private collections, and art dealer’s galleries around the world. Bothmer selected these photographs to illuminate his object-based methodology and to introduce scholars and the public to new fields of art historical inquiry. This compendium makes many of Bothmer’s articles and ideas accessible to a wide audience for the first time, highlighting his tremendous commitment to Egyptian sculpture of all periods. Art historians, museum curators, students, and all those interested in Egyptian art will find this book an invaluable source of information. Bothmer’s influence, both as a teacher and a scholar, will live on in this collected volume. |

Geschlechtervorstellungen und soziale Differenzierung bei Appian aus Alexandrien $54 English summary: In the second century AD, the Egyptian Appian wrote a historiographical work on the history of Rome. In detailed accounts he explains the power and the territorial expansion of the Roman Empire. The manner in which Appian wrote his history, as well as the roles he assigns the male and female figures, are the focus of Kordula Schnegg’s study on gender ideas and social differentiation by Appian. Based on the theoretical considerations of the modern American historian Joan W. Scott on ‘Gender’ as a scientific category, the ancient Greek text is analyzed in terms of contained gender ideas. In this context, the described standards of conduct, possible actions, and virtues that provide gender specific expectations are studied. Likewise, the characters receive special consideration in their specific context and the actions and characteristics ascribed to them. It appears that Appian ascribes women – whatever their social status and ethnic affiliation – little significance for the course of history. Appian constructed a story where memorable exploits can be attributed to a small social group made up entirely of men: the Romans. German text. German description: Im zweiten Jahrhundert n.
