Fun half-term activities for kids
Counting down the days before half-term begins is an exciting activity for children but can be a daunting one for parents! Just how do you find ways to keep the kids occupied and stimulated during a week off school?
Thankfully, Yellow Moon has plenty of toys and arts and crafts activities to occupy the minds of high-energy kids, and there are also plenty of special half-term activities for families to participate in throughout the UK.
Below are a few suggestions to help parents and kids ensure that the period from Saturday May 28th to Sunday 5th June flies by in a blur of enjoyment!
For kids who love music and food
The Lazy Sunday festival in South London’s Brockwell Park is a great way to celebrate the start of half-term for families with young children. The event is full of variety and spice – Reggae Reggae Sauce founder Levi Roots hosts the day’s festivities!
Kids will love the sights, sounds and smells of Lazy Sunday – exotic dancers, steel drum bands, free live music and mouth-watering cooking demonstrations are all on the menu.
Why not continue to encourage children’s interest in cooking after the event? Yellow Moon has some great Keep Kids Cooking products such as Apron and Hat Sets and Baking Sets. They will also enjoy making a creative mess with a Pancake Making Set.
For kids who love history
Jousting at Warwick Castle from May 28th to June 5th promises an electrifying show as a marauding horde stake their claim on the castle in between realistic jousting duels. Kids will also get to see a Barbarian Boat of War, a Flight of the Eagles show and a Sword in the Stone display during this thrilling event.
The castle is easy for families to access from London and Birmingham but not so easy for barbarians to conquer!
Children captivated by the knights’ speed and bravery will want to undertake a quest to create a Yellow Moon Design Your Own Shield kit. This will let them recreate the designs they saw on the Warwick Knights’ shields using Acrylic Paints and Deco pens. They could also research what their family crest looks like on the handy ‘all family crests’ website.
For kids who love science fiction
London’s Olympia venue is the place to be for junior Doctor Who fans wishing to exterminate half-term boredom. Some of the exhibition rooms in the Doctor Who Experience might look small from the outside but (like the Tardis) there’s lots going on inside.
Kids will love taking an interactive walk through the exhibition and having a good look at the TV footage, exhibits from the series and recreated sets.#
A Yellow Moon Space Rifle is the perfect weapon for junior sci-fi fans inspired by the Doctor’s do-or-die battles with the Daleks.
For kids who love singing, dancing or flowers
Castleton Garland Day will take place in Castleton, Derbyshire on Saturday, 28th May – more commonly known as Oak Apple Day in this picturesque northern village. The ceremony involves a beautiful garland weighing a hefty 56 pounds being lifted on to the sturdy shoulders of a ‘King’ dressed in Stuart costume.
After the King and his Queen-for-the-day tour the village streets on horseback, it’s time for Morris dancing and singing.#

For kids who love the great outdoors
Half-term also coincides with National Camping and Caravanning Week, when family events like drawing skills classes are being run for little campers.
